About Month-End Close

Practitioner notes and free tools on flux, variance, and journal entries — written by someone who runs a close, not a content team.

What this is

Month-End Close is a collection of articles and free tools on the specific mechanics of month-end flux, variance analysis, and the journal entries and estimates that sit behind them. Everything here comes from real close work — genericized, since none of it can name an employer or a client, but the mechanics are real.

The site has two parts: the writing, which covers the reasoning — why commentary gets sent back, what a review actually catches, why a recurring entry's design goes stale — and the tools, which are the mechanical parts of that work done for you: grading commentary, tracking what's ready to flux, organizing GL detail, and a free Excel template.

Who writes it

An accountant with a background in internal audit, currently working full time in the field. The site is written anonymously for now — no name attached yet — which is a choice about timing, not a statement about anything else.

First-person practitioner voice throughout means the "I" in an article is real experience, genericized to stay anonymous: entities, dollar figures, and identifying detail are changed or synthetic, but the mechanics described are things that actually happened.

What the site tries to do

What it isn't

Not accounting advice, and not an assurance service. Nothing here should be taken as a recommendation for your specific facts — materiality thresholds, control environment, and what a reviewer expects all vary by company, and this site can't know yours.

Not a close-management platform. The tools are single-purpose and run in the browser; nothing is uploaded, stored, or tracked.
