What can I flux right now?

Flux doesn't have to wait for the whole close to finish. An account is explainable as soon as everything feeding it has landed. This tracks which ones those are.

Tick off what's closed as it closes. Accounts turn ready the moment their dependencies are met — so on day three you can see what's actually available instead of re-reading the checklist to work it out.

Set up your dependencies once. It saves in this browser only — no account, no server, nothing sent anywhere. Clearing your browser data clears it.

How to use it

Start with Build my map — six yes/no questions about your close (inventory, revenue reserves, FX, intercompany, leases, tax provision). It generates a map shaped like your business rather than a generic one, and drops what doesn't apply. Takes under a minute and there's nothing to type.

Then adjust anything that isn't right in Edit setup. The generated map is a starting point, not an answer — only you know how your close actually sequences.

Each period, hit Start a new month to clear the ticks while keeping your setup. Then tick milestones as they complete. Anything whose dependencies are all met turns ready.

You can also tick an account off once you've written its commentary, so what's left on screen is genuinely what's left to do.

Why this is worth tracking separately from your close checklist

A close checklist tracks entries: what's been booked, by whom, when. It doesn't tell you what flux work just became possible, because that's a different question with a different dependency chain.

The translation between them — receivables closed, therefore gross revenue is now explainable — is usually held in someone's head and re-derived under time pressure. That's the part worth writing down once.

More on the underlying idea: the accounts you can flux fastest are the ones you booked yourself.

Want this as a workbook you keep? The free flux template is the single-sheet version. The CloseOps Flux & Variance System ($79) starts from your trial balance instead: confirm each account's classification and it builds the income statement and balance sheet flux statements, then ranks what to investigate.

Related: the commentary test — once an account is ready, grade what you wrote about it. And month-end flux, start to finish.
